As the waters in our rivers gets closer to 60 degrees, smallmouth are moving further up. I myself have caught some decent fish in a river mouth along the CT and I know that people are getting them on the lower Farmy. For fly guys, use woolly buggers, dead drifted now and gradually picking up the speed of the retrieve as the water gets warmer. For the bait boys: crayfish and hellgramites. You can try other stuff but these fish are rock rooting. The natural crustations and insects that live in those crevices are what the want, so give it to them. This is the time of year for the really big river fish, later it will all be dinks.
